Great Holiday Raw Food Dessert Ideas

Christmas is a time when we think of family get togethers, opening gifts and eating in abundance. It is a special time for most of us, enjoying friends,  and good comfort, traditional Holiday foods. But with the Holidays, also comes weight gain, bloating, and even health problems from too many sweets and food.

Today white sugar, white flour, dairy products, trans and saturated fats, refined carbs and excess calories are on the “no-no” list … and with the holiday times it seems that cakes, cookies, candies and hearty fatty meals are our only options. If we even try to cut them out we begin to feel deprived and panic stricken. After all, it is a long-time tradition.

One answer to this problem  is to make some raw food desserts  and healthier but similar meals, and take them to get togethers and family visits. Try creating some healthy puddings, gluten free cakes and use nuts, dried fruits, oats, dried fruits or even avocados. They have a lot of flavor and are good for you.  There are some really great recipes at  The Raw Dessert which showcase some delicious cookies, cakes, and treats. Ani Phyo has some amazing raw food recipes as well along with some fun videos. Many of these recipes I can guarantee you won’t even notice a difference and many times taste even better than their processed sugar laden counterparts.

One of my favorite recipes is for a “Flourless Chocolate Cake with Raspberry Sauce” which calls for 1 ½ cups raw walnuts, dash of salt, 6-8 pitted medjool dates, ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa or carob powder, ½ tsp vanilla extract, and 2 tsp water. For the raspberry sauce you use 1 cup fresh or frozen raspberries (thaw and drain if frozen) with ¼ cup pitted medjooy dates, soaked for 30 minutes and drained. Place the walnuts and salt in a food processor with the S blade and process until finely ground. Add dates, cocoa powder, and vanilla … process until mixture becomes sticky. Add water and process briefly. Transfer to a serving plate and form a 5 inch round cake. Place the raspberries and dates in a blender and mix until smooth, pouring over the cake just before serving.

You do not have to give up all your comfort foods, just find a healthier recipe for it. Should you choose to nibble on a few old foods, do so in moderation, do not go overboard, and remember to wait and let your stomach digest properly before the next meal. And always drink lots of water throughout the day.

Happy Holidays Everyone!

What is the Raw Food Diet?

The Raw Food Diet is gaining popularity and buzz, not just as a diet to lose weight, but a diet for a long and healthy life. We eat so much in the way of processed food that we don’t even stop to think about what we’re putting into our bodies, and how far we’ve come nutritionally from our ancestral farming roots.

A raw food diet means consuming food in its natural, unprocessed form. There are several common-sense rationales for why this is a good idea. Processing and cooking food can take so much of the basic nutritional value away. Think of some of the conventional wisdom you’ve heard about for years, such as: If you cook pasta just to the al dente (or medium) stage, it will have more calories, yes, but it will have more the nutritional value in it than if you cooked it to a well-done stage. Or you probably remember hearing not to peel carrots or potatoes too deeply, because most of the nutrients and values are just under the surface.

The raw food diet means eating unprocessed, uncooked, organic, whole foods, such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, legumes, dried fruits, seaweeds, etc. It means a diet that is at least 75% uncooked! Cooking takes out flavor and nutrition from vegetables and fruits. A raw food diet means eating more the way our ancient ancestors did. Our healthier, more fit ancestors. They cooked very little, and certainly didn’t cook or process fruits and vegetables. They ate them RAW. Their water wasn’t from a tap; it was natural, spring water. Maybe they drank some coconut milk on occasion.

Doesn’t it just make sense that this is how our bodies were meant to eat? It’s a way of eating that’s in harmony with the planet and in harmony with our own metabolisms. Our bodies were meant to work, and need to work to be efficient. That means exercise, certainly, but it also means eating natural, raw foods that require more energy to digest them.

Detoxification Herbs For a Healthier Life

Toxic load is the condition of tissues and cells where internal terrain is developed after food consumption of highly processed foods. It is a fact that some pesticides, chemicals, and certain fumes are present in the environment that is affecting your immune system and jeopardizing your health. Moreover, the foods that you eat can lead to a toxic atmosphere lowering your overall immunity. Your body needs to be cleansed from these unwanted toxins. The process is called detoxification.

Although you have the kidney and liver which are organs considered as natural detoxifiers filtering out the impurities of the bodies, you need to consider other ways to detoxify your body from toxins. Some of the methods can be extreme like long fasting from juice drinks or dialysis.

Take note, your immune system is the defense mechanism of your body. So, disease and infections should be prevented before it affects your whole body through toxin’s removal. As you could observe, the illness’ frequency of a person is dependent on the immune’s system strength which is composed of complex networks of nodes and lymph channels.

There are detoxification herbs that are beneficial in making your immune system strong. These herbs are the perfect and natural way of removing toxins from your immune systems to minimize acquired illnesses and to develop your general well-being.

Several detox herbs are much better for improving your immune systems than others. However, there are specific considerations for the detoxification program that you choose. But the following detox herbs can be used according to your needs.

Thus, it is now being accepted in the detoxification concept treating patients worldwide.

Natural Detoxification For Total Mind Rejuvenation

When we hear the word toxin, we mistakenly think of poison in a labeled bottled. Indeed, toxins are poisonous, but they are not necessarily labeled when they enter our body in many and perhaps unthinkable ways. Imagine how minute and invisible microbes are and that they can penetrate into our pores. And everyday exposure to street life allows you to meet all sorts of air pollution. If germs can enter your body through very small openings, how much more to total exposure where viruses can easily enter?

So what happens when the body is overloaded with pollutants? Well, it’s not as simple as just getting sick. Mind processing is significantly affected and all the rest of your body. Pollutants block or slow down the delivery of needed nutrients and oxygen to all parts of the body. And since the brain is the major consumer of oxygen, it has the tendency to be damaged. Have you noticed that after doing a hard-hitting mental work, you feel very exhausted even when you were just seated for hours? It is because the brain can sometimes override the whole body. So when there are lots of toxins in you, your mind becomes sluggish too.

And most of the time, it’s tough to protect ourselves to the extent of being disease-proof. Although the body provides its own system of healing, we need to take care of it and help it function better. That is why we need to detoxify. A Natural Detoxification Diet helps in rejuvenation of the mind as much as it cleanses the body.

The safest way to detoxify is having it the natural way – through proper diet. In this process of cleansing, you reduce your intake of junk. This means that you must avoid products that obstruct your filtering system. These products are fats, alcohol, caffeine, and food additives. While you stay away from these foods, you replace them with easy to digest fruits and vegetables. They are not only rich in vitamins, but they supplement the body with energy boosting nutrients. Surely, they are clean, given that they are prepared freshly and cleanly. The fibers in fruits and vegetables toss the toxins out.

In detoxification, fasting for a short period of time will catalyze the process. Of course this should be done under the supervision of your nutritionist or doctor. During the process, solid foods are avoided. Your intake is solely made of fruit juice and herbal teas. Researches are made to prove that fasting decreases the stress on the digestive system. By emptying the stomach, toxins are also flushed out of the body. And the liquids that you take keep you away from starving. Nevertheless, fasting is quite critical so it is advised that a physician must be consulted first. Preferably, fast during the weekends when your time is allotted merely to relaxation.

In addition to fruit juices, some supplements are recommended for safety. To name a few are the fermented soybeans and algae powder. Fermented soy beans support the colon function and help produce the good intestinal bacteria which are major proponents of the inner cleansing process. In parallel, the algae powder gives you the feeling of being full. It supplies ample protein to ease the fatigue that some people experience during fasting.

Detoxification in the whole is a matter of a good system of living.

Detox and Balancing Ph-ion to Cleanse the Body

Grow, glow, and go. These are three food types which a person should eat every day in certain amounts in order to eat a healthy and nutritious diet. This is the subject matter in one of the many lessons in science in the elementary grade which increases the awareness of children to eating a healthy and balanced diet.

From the very start, man has been used to eating different food products, as well as beverages. And without actually knowing it, these food products and beverages contain harmful chemicals. Although the body has its own way of removing unwanted toxins in the body, sometimes a build up of these harmful chemicals or acids are inevitable. And this is because of the enormous amount of chemicals or acids found in the body.

Different fluids are found inside the human body. The cells inside the body are often affected by the ph level. The ph level is the measurement of acid-alkaline in the body. The body has its own way of managing the so-called ph level; and when it is unable to do such thing properly, the imbalance affects the whole body.

If you experience stress, tiredness, excess weight, fatigue, aches, pains, poor digestion, and other serious disorders, the ph level inside your body may be too acidic.

The three things that might contribute more to the body to become overly acidic are ingesting acids, creation of acids, and improper acid elimination.

Ingesting foods which are considered acidifying foods as dairy, processed sugar, meat, alcohol, coffee, etc. overloads the ability of your body to neutralize all the acids.

Acidifying toxins are created by microforms and pathogens inside the body. If the body is too acidic, yeasts, microforms, and bad bacteria proliferate. These live organisms create even more toxins, and add up to the already acidic environment.

Some acids are strong, while some are weak. Acid build up occurs when the body systems which eliminate the acids are not functioning properly, and is compromised. Many systems in the body buffer acids which includes mineral reserves, breath, and fat.

Acids are considered toxins, and these toxins need to be removed through detoxification. You have to aid your body in the detoxification process especially when it is not functioning well.

If you want to obtain a well-balanced ph, you must have a proper diet and nutrition. It is wise to follow a detox plan which can greatly help you the detox process. A diet consisting of foods high in alkaline, proper supplementation, and hydrating the body properly can aid the body in detox.

There are also alkalizing products available in stores which augment the ph balance. A well-maintained and balanced ph level will prevent acid build up in the body. If you think that, you’re one the many people who has already formed an acid build up or are very acidic, start a detox program now.

A detox program will not only help your body in the detox process, but will also help in balancing the ph level inside the body and a Detox and Balancing Ph-ion to Cleanse the Body is just what you might need.

Your body needs detoxification, and that can only be achieved through self discipline and determination. Changing certain things in your life will benefit you and your body more.

Remember, you must keep a balanced ph-ion. You will instantly know that you have an acid build up if you are too acidic, and that is the right time to consult your doctor for proper detoxification.

A quick 5-day body detox can rejuvenate you, detoxify your body, and leave you feeling amazing. Just 5 days is pretty easy as you can start on a Monday and be done by the weekend, Follow this super simple guide below to a quick 5-day body detox and start feeling better soon.

In the present condition, you can no longer survive a single day without encountering pollution. At work, you may not at all be so sure of the cleanliness of the water you drink or of the food you eat. When dealing with people, you can hardly get away from air pollution, be it from smokers, all sorts of sprays or from the exhaust of vehicles. This greatly affects the health in one way or another. Don’t be so sure that when your body does not visibly react, it’s alright.

For these reasons, detoxification is necessary in order to keep a healthy body which also results to healthy mind and healthy relationship with people.

Our body has its own means of healing and detoxifying. However, when pollutants that enter our body had been accumulated more than the capacity of self cleansing, we are giving our inside mechanisms a hard time. Then the tissues are stressed and therefore lead to malfunction. And because they are weakened, the cleansing process is also affected.

We definitely want a clean body. But we also need to help our system in regulating the body processes. However, you should not wait for your body organs to be stressed out and overworked before doing something. In times when the body lacks the command to keep the systems working, the person must supplement. The 5-day detox plan will do a great help in keeping the body systems at work. The 5-day detox plan will rejuvenate the body as well as the spirit, keeping it clean and toned.

The Quick 5-day body detox plan consists of a short period of dietary change in which certain foods are avoided. Your meals should consist mostly of fresh fruits and green, leafy vegetables. Fats, oil, preservatives and food additives are a big no when undergoing the process of detoxification. Also, meat should be kept off because they are hard to digest. Start will juices, vegetables, and whole grains. After a day or two, eating meat in any form is dropped off from the diet.

Ideal foods that can be part of your diet are as follow: garlic, broccoli, beets, and beans or nuts. Only fresh fruit extracts can be taken as beverages except for grapefruit. And since water is a universal solvent, six to eight glasses of this should be recommended daily. Water is also a major factor in the detoxification process. It flushes out the toxins in the forms of perspiration, urine, or stool.

Although you seem to eat less when detoxifying, you are assured that you will not starve, and ironically, you will even boost your stamina. It is because your intake is limited only to foods which are healthy and are good to the digestive system.

Detoxification plan should be done at least quarterly. To ensure that you get an efficient one, it will be best to consult a nutritionist or a professional. You should also seek for a doctor’s advice to ensure that what you will do is a detoxification and not addition of toxins to your body.

Through the process of detoxification, the toxins are flushed out in your body and a new set of energy is supplied to the body providing you both physical and mental alertness.

Cleanliness should be maintained not only in the outside, but more so in the inside.

How to Detox Your Body

If you find yourself feeling less than energetic, a bit out of sorts, and generally dealing with sluggishness, aches, and digestive troubles, you may need a detox. While many people are quick to discount the concept of detoxification, it’s actually a centuries old practice in many cultures around the world.

What exactly is detoxification? While there are a number of different methods, it all boils down to cleansing toxins from the body, providing clean nourishment, and getting adequate rest. Detoxing your body will not only leave you feeling energetic and refreshed; it can also boost your immune system and protect you from illness, so that you stay as healthy as possible.

Detoxification works by purifying the blood. Most toxins are processed in the liver for elimination from the body, although other organs play important roles as well, including the lungs, lymphatic system, skin, kidneys, and intestines. When these systems are overloaded, they can’t properly filter impurities from the body, negatively impacting your functioning and quality of life.

Start with the basics by cutting out alcohol, caffeine, tobacco, saturated fats, and refined sugars. All of these create a toxic strain on your body, compromising your immune system and ability to heal. You should also limit your use of toxic chemicals in cleaning and personal care products. Opt for products with natural ingredients instead.

Managing stress is another important aspect of any detox plan. Stress causes the release of adrenaline and other “fight or flight” hormones in the body. While everyone appreciates a good adrenaline rush now and then, a constant overload of stress hormones will take a toll on your body. Techniques like meditation, yoga, and other forms of physical or mental exercise are great stress relievers.

Once you’ve made these broad changes to reduce your toxic load, you may be ready to delve into a more thorough detox program. This type of detox can be intense, and shouldn’t be undertaken constantly. An intensive detox at least once every year is generally a good idea. But, those with health conditions, children, and pregnant or nursing mothers should exercise caution with any detox program and should ensure they are receiving adequate nutrition based on their circumstances. In these cases, it’s a good idea to consult with a doctor before you begin.

The most common detox routines involve a week long program. One approach is to start by fasting on clear liquids for two days, and then gradually increase food consumption over the following five days. Generally, fruit is first reintroduced into the diet, followed by vegetables, then grains, then legumes, and finally animal proteins. Another option is a 3 to 7 day juice fast. Fresh juices made at home are the best option, and they can be made from seasonal fruits and vegetables and consumed in generous quantities, as can fresh, filtered water.

Other ways that you can detox your body is with a raw food diet which include eating foods that contain plentiful fiber and sticking to as much as possible with organically grown foods. You can also drink green tea and take herbs like burdock, milk thistle, and dandelion root to aid in cleansing the liver. Plentiful water and a multivitamin supplement that is rich in vitamin C will also help flush toxins from the body.

There are many techniques for releasing toxins through the lungs and skin. Exercise helps release toxins through the sweat glands and through exhalation, and it also provides much needed stress release. Hydrotherapy, saunas, detoxifying foot baths, and dry brushing the skin are also effective detox methods.

In the long run, taking care of yourself day to day will help ensure that you avoid overtaxing your body with toxins in the first place. But, just as your home needs a thorough cleaning every now and then, even the healthiest among us benefit from a thorough detox program at appropriate intervals.

Liver Detoxification Diet, Also a Great Toxin Cleanse

Naturally there are going to be some times that our body does not quite feel up to par. The reasons for this are pretty simple; sometimes we don’t take care of ourselves the way we should. We eat poorly, drink unhealthy beverages, lack exercise, etc. and this can all lead up to a backup in our system, that is chalked full of toxins. Toxins that have been introduced into our system from the environment as well can cause our bodies to behave and feel poorly.

There are quite a few things that people will do when they discover that the state of their bodies isn’t quite what they want it to be. Some people try going on a diet, some people will exercise. People will do anything they can to feel well again, but in truth, the answer lies in riding their system from toxic build up. Depending on your condition and ailments, a liver detoxification may be exactly what your body needs in order restore balance and make you feel fantastic again. A liver detoxification is more of a fasting diet, but it does the trick quite nicely, so below we will go through all the steps necessary to clean your liver and live a healthier life.

Before starting your detoxification diet, make sure you note any and all food that you have been eating and to see if any of them contain chemicals that might be harmful to your body so you can completely eliminate them from your diet. Remember that anything pre-packaged or non-organic could cause a problem. Sometimes pesticides used in food preservation could cause you major problems as well, so pay attention to what you’re eating and see what you can do to round out your diet!

If your liver has been compromised there is an easy way to tell, and the best way to do so is to have some blood tests run. Serious signs of liver problems might include vomiting, fatigue, loss of appetite, itching, dark urine, and many other things, so its best to consult and physician immediately. These symptoms don’t always indicate liver failure but it’s never a bad idea to check with your doctor first and maintain liver detoxification cleanses often. After all, it can improve your quality of life drastically and keep you happier!

The first thing that you will need to do is eliminate all caffeine from your diet. We all love caffeine of course, but we should be able to eliminate this from our system for just a few weeks while preparing for and starting the detox. Do this for one week, and at the end of the week, you will be ready to start your detoxification diet. Keep in mind that this may not be pleasant as our bodies may be so used to certain drugs, such as caffine, but it will be worth it in the end to make sure that your body is in working condition at the end of the day.

During the first few days, you should drink ten glasses of water and two tablespoons of lemon juice. After that, do not eat anything else. That may sound a little bit difficult if you are used to eating a lot of food, but this will help to give your liver a rest and purge the poisons from your system. You might feel a little uncomfortable, but this is normal; just think about how great you’ll feel when the whole thing is over! Press on and stick to your diet.

As the days progress you can upgrade to drinking vegetable broth, but make sure that you continue to drink a minimum of ten 12 oz glasses of water per day. Chances are you may become hungry by the end of the day so you may try a quick shot of lemon juice and water, but you need to press on and stick to the diet.

Finally, you can add fresh fruit and some raw vegetables into your diet after about day 4, and continue with the lemon juice, water, broth and raw fruit/vegetable for 3 more days. Once you have completed 7 days, you can slowly introduce whole grains and some dairy into your diet. You won’t be able to go back to eating standard food right away, you’ll have to ease yourself off the diet. This is all very inconvenient but it is definitely worth it to feel better and have a healthier body. As you begin to introduce the foods back into your system, keep a record of how you feel. Many people often discover certain foods cause them allergies, headaches, fatigue and more and it is much easier to track how your body reacts. If you can manage it, try to separate which foods you bring back. For example, try meats one day and that’s all. Next day introduce grains, etc. and continue with that until your diet is satisfactory for you.

Your liver is a very important part of your body, and as such it is critical that you keep it clean and healthy and get yourself on the road to living a happier and healthier life, because you deserve it!

Lemonade Cleanse Diet

lemonThe Lemonade Cleanse Diet is a detox diet that was created in 1941 by a naturopathic doctor by the name of Stanley Burroughs who originally called it The Master Cleanse. The purpose of the diet was to rid the body of toxins and allow it to heal from disease. Most people who went on the diet found out they lost quite a bit of weight very quickly so the Lemonade Diet has come to be used for quick weight loss.

It is important to know that while some of the weight lost is fat, some of it is water, which means some of the weight will be easily gained back once the diet is over. Like most detox diets, the Lemonade Cleanse Diet is very strict and may be difficult to adhere to.

The only thing that is to be consumed while on the diet is the lemonade mixture and a laxative tea. The lemonade is made with pure water, grade B maple syrup, and cayenne pepper. Here is the original recipe devised by Burroughs.

8 ounces room temperature water
2 tablespoons fresh lemon or lime juice (equal to one-half lemon)
2 tablespoons genuine grade B maple syrup
1/10 teaspoon red pepper (cayenne pepper)

Combine ingredients, shake, and drink. Consume six to twelve glasses each day.

Burroughs claimed that the combination of lemon juice and maple syrup is enough to provide all the essential minerals and vitamins that are needed and he advised to take no solid food while on the diet. He also recommended the use of a gentle herbal laxative tea to be taken daily to help remove toxins and waste from the intestinal tract.

It is important to be careful of what you eat when ending the Lemonade Diet. Don’t shock your system by coming off the diet and binging on junk food. Introduce solid food gradually over two to three days and stick with juices, raw foods, and soups at first.

Burroughs claimed it was safe to use the Lemonade Cleanse Diet for an extended time. He recommended a minimum of 10 days in order to receive the full health benefits and to use the cleanse 3 to 4 times each year to keep toxins flushed from the system.

This particular diet is said to have many benefits. Here are some of them: quick weight loss, kidney cleanse, colon cleanse, flush out hardened sediments from the muscles and joints, reduce blood pressure, reverse edema, strengthen nerves, purify the cells, and eliminate toxins from the body.

The Lemonade Diet has been used for decades as a detox diet and a weight loss diet. It recently regained popularity when Beyonce announced she used the diet to lose weight for her role in the movie Dreamgirls. Suddenly, interest was renewed in the diet but more for quick weight loss rather than as a detox diet as it was originally intended.

The Lemonade Cleanse Diet is an extreme diet so if you have any existing health conditions it is probably a good idea to let your doctor know you are going on the diet. Diabetics in particular need to be cautious when making radical changes to their diets.
